COVID made us go back to the canvas and rethink about our systems that are present in our daily lives. One of the core problems I observed was how relationship design was shaping up in our environment. In our growing digital world human connections matter more than ever. Relationships between people, organizations and communities behold an amazing bond of trust and power within them that can change the world for good. One of the integral problems that I personally faced and a lot of people around me did too was "Elderly Care". With children living in far away from their parents , them succumbing to their age and with hustle culture residing in their children's hearts, we possess a big problem of how should we go about taking care of the elderly. Let alone COVID, but also in general searching for caregivers who are good at their job and can be trusted is a big problem that has been observed. While searching for potential caregivers people have relied onto informal networks and sources, which sometimes work sometimes don't. Observing the above problems through secondary research (online articles and reports) and some sort of primary research (conversations with friends, family and acquaintances) I realised the solution to work needs to be hyperlocal in nature. It needs to set up a connect with the stakeholders involved for them to use the platform. Another big movement that got quite popular during and post COVID was supporting local business and boosting local economies. I tried to understand if this project has an opportunity to boost local economy. To understand the needs of the stakeholders involved, I looked onto secondary research and interviewed a few people who I have seen have been struggling with the issue. Upon interviewing these were the Jobs-to-be-done identified for the project.
Based on the above there three key user personas involved with the platform:
Some of the key insights that I gathered at this stage were: - The App should have two user flows one where people like Kavya can login and connect to suitable caregivers and other being where people like Dev can join the platform to provide services - The App had to be multilingual for an inclusive onboarding experience and its scalability to both urban and rural markets in India. - Training of caregivers is an important aspect and should be paid keen attention while their onboarding to the platform Considering the above I came up with the below solutions
The projects intends to integrate more features which make the mobile an effective healthcare device and helps in mitigating the problems faced at the time of elderly care. Features such as built in SPO2 tracker, heart rate monitor, blood pressure monitor etc are present within the reach of a click. The app can also be integrated with the national health ID cards for the safekeeping of medical history. My biggest takeaway with this project was to understand how empathy plays a critical role in understanding the different stakeholders present in the process. Everything that gets built in the tech world is driven by how well the application responds to the pain points of it's consumers.
